What’s up, Anime lovers?
Your favourite Teen Romance Comic is back on your screens.
Oregairu, which means “My Teen Romantic Comedy is Wrong, as I expected”, features a group of school children who battle psychological wars while juggling school, friendship, young love and identity.
This Rom-Com is also called MY Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. It is an adaptation of the light novels Series by the same title and a brainchild of Creators Wataru Watari and Ponkan 8.
The main characters are two members of the School Service Club, Hachiman Hikigaya and Yukino Yukinoshita, and their friend Yui Yuighama.
The three friends have come to be fondly known as The Trio by Oregairu fans from Seasons 1 and 2. in the Summer of 2020. Season 1 premiered between April 4 and JUNE 27,2013, while Season 2 aired between April 2 and June 25, 2015.
Season 3 is the last of the Series. If you are curious to know what happened to your favourite Manga characters, let’s delve into season 3:
Release Date of Oregairu Season Three
Oregairu 3 premiered in 2020, between July 9, 2020, and September 24, 2020.
It had earlier on been scheduled for release in the Spring, but as we know, the Pandemic premiered instead, and the two ‘big shots’ couldn’t share the limelight, so the Season’s premiere was moved forward to when most of the lockdown and travel bans had been lifted.
There is still no confirmation whether season 3 is the last play of Oregairu or we will get a season 4. We keep our fingers crossed!
The voices we have come to know and love from season 2 are still with us in season 3:
- Takuya Eguchi as Hachiman Hikigaya
- Saori Hayami as Yukino Yukinoshita
- Nao Toyama as Yuya Yuigahama
- Iroha Ishiki as Ayana Sakura
Season 3 resolves the conflicts raised by the friction among the three friends and the simmering love triangle.
For the viewers that missed out on seasons one and two, let me give you a rundown:
Season 1 And 2 Recap
In season 1, we get into Class 2F.
Hachiman becomes a loner after being rejected by his childhood sweetheart and is mostly avoided by his classmates, who think he has poor social skills. He doesn’t have poor social skills; he is just too observant. In a bid to cheer him up, his teacher forces him to join a volunteer club-The Service Club, where he meets Yukinoshita.
Yukinoshita is the President of the Club and its only member until Hachiman joins the club. She is a rich girl and takes no particular liking to Hachiman at first. Okay, she takes no particular fancy to anyone as the other girls are envious of her beauty and privileged background, trying to undermine and sabotage her many times. She wishes to help others, but her brutal honesty and criticism earn her enemies instead of lambs to save.
Yukinoshita’s criticism earns her a friend in Yui Yugihama, Hachiman’s classmate and the punching bag in Hayato’s ‘Mean Girls’ clique. Yui’s gentle nature and adoration for Yukinoshita and Hachiman win Yukinoshita over. She is a firm believer in talents but can barely express herself, unlike Yukinoshita and Hachiman, who always says what they think or feel.
Yui’s inability to express herself makes her suppress her feelings towards Hachiman when she learns that Hachiman has feelings for Yukinoshita. She does not want to upset either of the two and watches on the sidelines at a romance she would rather be a part of than a witness to.
In Season 2, a Valentine’s Day event leaves viewers in suspense as Yukinoshita proposes to Hachiman at the aquarium. She never tells him her proposal, and we can’t wait for Season 3!
Oregairu Season 3 Synopsis
From the aquarium, the Trio heads home to meet Yukino’s sister, Haruno Yukinoshita. Yukino tries to support her sister and stand up to her antagonistic mother.
Hachiman’s younger sister, Komachi, passes her entrance exams for Sou High School, and together with Tashi Kawasaki, they are accepted into Sobu.
Iroha Ishiki, the Student Council President, enlists the help of the Service Club in organizing the prom. Once again, Yukino has to stand up to her mother when her mother and the school’s parent council oppose the prom celebration, despite graduation coming up.
Dilemma forces the characters to put their feelings aside and solve the problems at hand. Yukino, for instance, not only ends her relationship but also disbands the Service Club altogether. She agrees to help Iroha organize the prom and steps up her resolve to be independent.
We can’t wait to see how it all ends.
