Washington, DC – Thursday, 4/2/15

Our final day began with a trip to the White House. What an honor to take pictures in front of the home to our nation’s presidents. We all learned more about how our Executive Branch has evolved throughout the years. From the White House we traveled to the National Cathedral. A guide explained the intricacies in the woodwork and stained-glass windows and how the Cathedral took over eighty years to complete. The Cathedral is an amazing building. Next, we traveled to Georgetown where we enjoyed lunch and shopping. Godiva, Starbucks, Georgetown Cupcakes were three of our favorite stops. Throughout the week we made some awesome memories as we visited the humbling sites in our nation’s Capitol. Though the trip had to end, we gained valuable insight that we will remember forever.

Washington, DC – Wednesday, 4/1/15

Today was another┬ájam-packed day with trips to Arlington National Cemetery, the Iwo Jima Memorial, and the Holocaust Museum. Our day began at Arlington National Cemetery, which was capped by the incredible experience of witnessing the changing of the Honor Guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. From there we went to take a group picture in front of the Iwo Jima Memorial, and take the time to teach the students the story behind this amazing memorial. On the way to our next destination we took a few minutes to say hello to the Albert Einstein memorial, and take a group picture. Our tour concluded at the Holocaust Museum. Although it was an emotional experience for all of us, it was a great learning experience as we all strive to never allow something like this to ever happen again. The day officially ended for us at Dave & Busters for some fun and games! I think it’s safe to say that today was an awesome day! It’s hard to believe that we’re leaving tomorrow, but we’re excited to finally get to see the last branch of government on the tour, the Executive Branch.

Washington, DC – Monday, 3/30/15

What a morning! Up at 3:45, and off to the airport. Upon arrival in Washington, we made the trek to the National Archives to see the documents that our nation is founded upon. It was awesome to see the signatures of our founding fathers. All of our groups were able to find lunch somewhere on the National Mall. Following lunch, we split the afternoon between the three Smithsonian museums. A scavenger hunt kept everyone busy searching each of the museums. A dinner of Chicago style pizza at Armand’s was an excellent break from lots of walking! Finally, we ended the day with an evening tour of the memorials on the Mall. It was enlightening to hear about how many have sacrificed for our country. After a long, fun-filled day, everyone crashed to prepare for another exciting day on Tuesday.
