Early Life
Dennis Kieth Rodman was born on May 13, 1961, in Trenton, New Jersey to parents Philander Rodman, Jr. and Shirley Rodman. His father was an enlisted member of the Air Force and fought in the Vietnam War. While he was still young, his father left him and his mother and moved to the Philippines to settle there. According to Dennis, he has either 26 or 28 siblings on his father’s side. He also stated that he is the eldest child among 47 children.
After his father left, his mother struggled and took a lot of jobs to support them financially. Along with his two sisters, Kim and Debra, Dennis was brought up in Oak Cliff, Dallas.
He went to South Oak Cliff High School and was one of the students of Gary Blair, basketball coach of Texas A&M. During his college years, he worked at a summer youth basketball camp, where he and Byrne Rich became friends. The two became inseparable that according to Dennis, he adopted the Rich family in 1982.
Personal Life
In September 1992, Dennis married Annie Bakes and both had a daughter named Alexis Caitlyn in 1988. They broke things off after 82 days for allegations of abuse and infidelities. In November 1988, Dennis and Carmen Electra tied the knot but just nine days later, he filed for an annulment. In 1999, he met Michelle Moyer and the two had a son named Dennis, Jr. They married in 2003 and after 9 years of trying to work things out, their divorce became official in 2012.
Career
Between 1986 and 1989, Dennis Rodman played for the Detroit Pistons coached by Chuck Daly. In the1993 – 1994 season, he was transferred to San Antonio Spurs and played alongside with Vinny Del Negro, Dale Ellis, and Willie Anderson. But in the 94-95 season, he was suspended for three games and took a leave of absence in November. Then, he was suspended for the second time on December 7. After missing a total of 19 games, he went back to playing on December 10.
Before the 95-96 season, Dennis was traded to the Chicago Bulls. Although it was initially considered as a tricky gamble, he played dominantly and had an average of 14.9 rebounds and 5.5 points in each game. He played a major role in the Bulls’ impressive record of 72 wins out of 82 games in the regular season.
After retiring from basketball, Rodman focused on his wrestling and acting careers. Some of his movies include D2: The Mighty Ducks, Double Team, Cutaway, Simon Sez, Undercover Brother, Blunt Movie, The Comebacks, and the Amazing Adventures of Wally and the Worm.
