Nowadays, the false lashes industry is valued at over $1 billion. Unsurprisingly, the main market consists of women between the ages of 18 and 34.
Eyelash extensions were invented by Karl Nessler, a famous hairdresser, in 1902. It wasn’t until the 1930s, however, that they became popular among women.

Keep Your Lashes Clean
Clean your eyelash extensions every day with an oil-free cleanser (other products can eat away at the adhesive). That’ll prevent dirt, dead skin cells, makeup, and oils from building up, all of which can cause the extensions to fall out prematurely.
Avoid using cotton pads; they can snag and rip out your extensions. Instead, use your fingers or a spoolie brush (other eyelash extension supplies work too). Wash gently with downward motions over the eyelid and lash line area until the area is clean.
Rinse with cool water afterward. From there, let your lashes air dry. You can use a lash wand to brush them back into their fluffy shape.
-
Avoid Wearing Mascara
Avoid wearing eye makeup, especially mascara. Depending on the product, it can weaken the bonding agents that are holding your extensions in place. Not only that, but it’ll also add extra weight to the hair follicles, which can result in lash damage.
That’s not all—water-proof mascaras are also virtually impossible to remove without ruining your eyelashes.
If you must wear mascara, stick to water-based solutions. They’re easier to remove and less drying compared to the waterproof variety. Also, avoid touching the roots of your lashes when applying the product; work from the middle to the tips instead.

Avoid Water For the First 48 Hours
Avoid getting your lashes wet within the first 48 hours. If anything, that’s the most important thing when it comes to eyelash extensions aftercare. The moisture will weaken the adhesive before it has a chance to set and that’ll cause them to fall out.
Given that, you want to avoid showering or cleaning your eye area with water for 48 hours.
If you must shower within that time, wear swimming goggles (make sure that they don’t leak and fit your face comfortably). They’ll keep the water away from your eyes so that they won’t react with the bonding agent.
And remember to dry the goggles first before taking them off.
Tip: Keep eye makeup to a minimum for the first 48 hours. That way, you won’t have to wash your lashes directly.
