What is this? What’s a Yona?
“Yona of the Dawn” is a famously known fantasy anime TV series based on a manga series commonly known in Japan as “Akatsuki no Yona.”
It is issued and designed by Mizuho Kusanagi. The Japanese graphic novel got its first-ever release on August 5, 2009, which has been more than a decade already, with surprisingly new story arcs and volumes that are being published through physical copies.
Production company Studio Pierrot gave out plans into creating “Yona of the Dawn” as an anime adapted television series, starting with its very own first season of which was canon to the manga.
It then made its way to viewers’ screens on October 7, 2014. It was an instantaneous favorite among fans and followers of the manga storyline and new viewers as well.
Even up till now, avid fans and followers have been longing to hear any updates and news on the production of the second season.
Here is most of what we know about the 2nd season so far:
Plot
The series is set in a fictitious land with a mix of Japanese, Chinese, and Korean cultures. The show revolves around Yona’s adventures and challenges.
The sole princess journeys her way into getting back her throne and the Kingdom of Kouka. The tale sets the mood in for redemption and revenge.
She is believed to be the reincarnation of Kouka’s first king, Hiryuu, for both carry red hair. Legend has it that the blood of the four legendary dragons will respond when they see her. As she too can hear voices of the four original dragons saying their oath to Hiryuu to protect her.
Season 2 Release
The first season of “Yona of the Dawn” consisted of 24 episodes, which premiered on October 17, 2014 and continued up until March 24, 2015.
A few months later a gap was made in between September 18, 2015, and December 20, 2016, three extra-special episodes following the storyline with the same production were released during that time.
However and until then, despite what has already surfaced, there has only been little info regarding the show’s future.
Fans and followers of the well-known series were shocked to know about Mizuho Kusanagi’s situation.
The manga series creator publicly opened on the social media platform, Twitter regarding the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes that hit the Kyushu region in Japan in April 2016, with an estimate of 50 people dead and around 3,000 suffered from minor injuries.
However, Kusanagi may not have suffered from any degree of physical injuries during the earthquakes, her work, however, suffered greatly which was a major setback for both her and the fans.
Kusanagi managed to recover quickly and returned to work, and with new story Arcs and volumes being written, both the manga and series sound very promising. Therefore we can say that there won’t be a shortage of source material for a second season.
