Samuel was brought into this world on the 21st of December in the year 1948. Washington, D.C. was his origin. However, Samuel was brought up in Chattanooga, Tenessee by his stringent grandmother. Later when Samuel turned 10 years old, the pair of grandmother and grandson was joined by Samuel’s mother, Elizabeth. Elizabeth used to work in a factory. His father, Roy Henry Jackson used to stay far from them who later died due to insobriety. Samuel had a keen interest in movies since childhood and he used to watch movies at the local theatres. Samuel went on to attend multiple schools. But he did his graduation from Riverside High School located in Chattanooga. This collaboration gave exposure to Samuel and he unexpectedly lucked into his passion for acting. Thereafter, Samuel opted to switch his field. Samuel was getting more engrossed in the black power campaigns held in the college. While studying in juniors, Samuel got kicked out of college for his stubborn protestation. The protest was for adding a black to the trustee bench and Samuel locked many of the board members for two days.
Personal
Samuel met LaTanya Richardson when he was studying at Morehouse College. Latanya is an actress as well as a producer of a sports channel. Samuel and LaTanya got united in wedlock in the year 1980. The couple was blessed with a daughter named Zoe in the year 1982. Later in the year 1982, the couple created a benevolent organization. And today, the trio is actively involved in philanthropy. Millions of dollars have been donated by them for Alzheimer’s, literacy, and equal opportunities. Samuel has also co-founded ‘Just Us Theatre’.
