The world of video animations has always stepped up their game with the latest trend in technological innovations, creating movies that are much more cartoon-realistic while maintaining a diverse and focused content where many children and adults will appreciate.
It was in 2010, where animation studios focused more on the active contents of the story. One of many studios is Blue Sky Studio, which has successfully ventured into creating a fun saga animation called “Rio”, this animation film has led the company in the right direction.
Rio’s director Carlos Saldanha is a talented individual who has shared with us his fine animation works such as ‘Ferdinand’ and ‘Ice Age’, and we can all agree that those animation films have stayed with us over the years.
The Movie
Carlos Saldanha’s film, Rio, has a unique approach to the story. It tells the adventures of the main character Blu, who is a domesticated blue macaw bird, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
This film has caught the attention of Brazil, because of its psychedelic influence of vibrant colors and a heartwarming love story of two birds, who are on the verge of extinction.
This film was more special than people would have expected, whether it was the intention of the director or not, the reality is that these birds are already endangered for years and unfortunately, they are officially extinct.
This movie will always be a constant reminder to us, of the species’ beauty. The Rio franchise has already released two parts. The first Rio film was released in 2011 and the sequel or second film came out in 2014.
It is expected that the storyline has caught the eyes and hearts of many fans. Nevertheless, Carlos Saldanha has never shut his door for an opportunity or possibility in directing the third movie.
The Plot
Let’s step back on the story plot of the earlier movies of Rio so that we can have a better understanding of what to expect in the third movie.
The first Rio film is focused on Blu who was still a child when he was smuggled out of the country Brazil, he was then found and taken care of by a young girl named Linda.
Everything changes when an ornithologist named Tulio requests to bring back Blu to his place of origin in order for him to mate with the last of their female species, Jewel, saving them from extinction.
It was a twist and turn for the story when the two birds were smuggled once again, this follows the story of their wild and funny adventure.
The first film ended with Blu and Jewel raising their three children in the jungle. This is where the second film continued as they set for the adventures of the family. They searched the amazon for any signs of other blue macaws, which led them to find the long lost family of Jewel.
The second film ended where the family decided to stay in the amazon and alternatively visit back to Rio during summertime.
Following the trail of the first two movies, we can expect that the adventures continue with the family together with the newfound flock in the amazon. Seeing Blu and Jewel visiting back in Rio in the summer, will surely be included in the plot.
It would also be a relevant plot for the story to feature the sad reality where the birds are facing extinction and Blu with his family will set out an adventure to prevent it from happening.
Movie Cast
Like many other movie series or franchises, it would be disappointing to watch the film with different actors playing the same character role.
Most likely, the main characters of the film cast will still be the same, Jesse Eisenberg as Blu and Anne Hathaway as Jewel.
New characters of the story will be set for casting.
Movie Crew
With a successful career and premier with the animation film ‘Rio’, Carlos Saldanha and his team will definitely be the same crew to work on Rio 3, should the movie be set. His heritage, passion, and concept of Brazilian culture, will fit very well in the movie saga.
Release Date
In the past few years, there has been no talk or news about the continuation of Rio for a third movie. We can only expect the production team of Rio are willingly ready to accept a third project of the movie.
There has been no official news, statement, or updates with regards to Rio 3. Should there be a possible third movie, it would most probably be released in 2022.
Movie Trailer
As much as we want to expect and there are no leads yet for a third movie for Rio. There are no movie trailers yet. If you are missing the story of Rio, you can always watch the first and second movies.
