Yo Gotti Early Life
Yo Gotti‘s official name is Mario Sentell Giden Mims and hails from Memphis, Tennessee. Yo was born on May 27th, 1981. He was brought up in Ridgecrest Apartments found in Frayser. The neighborhood was not friendly and was known for crime.
Mims’s early life was not easy. Federal agents detained his mum and aunties while in third grade. After that, they were imprisoned for 10 to 15 years. During that period, Mario started hanging out with children older than him either by five or six years.
His interaction with other children earned him the name Yo, which was a short form of the name Mario. The name Gotti was from a famous New York crime boss John Gotti. Mario saw himself of high ability than his peers. Hence, the name Gotti.

Sentell has been active in the music industry for twenty-four years. At fourteen years, Mario began singing and had an association with DJ Sound. After releasing his first album, Youngsta’s on a come up as Lil Yo. Gotti has gone ahead to release more studio albums such as;

Live from the kitchen album was the most significant studio album release by Yo Gotti, and this was in 2012. 5 star was the first song in the collection, and its release was in 2009. The song was number 79 in the US R&B Hot 100 and number 11 in US Rap.
The next big single in the album was Women lie, Men lie featuring Lil Wayne. On US R&B Hot 100, the song was number 22. The album Live from the kitchen release was in 2012, and more than 36,000 copies were bought in the first three weeks. On a surprise, over 16,000 copies were sold in the US in the first week after release. It was number 12 on the US Billboard 200.
However, this is not what Yo was expecting after releasing the album. He sighted low album sales after quitting RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music.
In 2013 his record label Collective Music Group (CMG) partnered with Epic Records, a music distributor whose founder is Antonio Marquis. Marquis or L.A. Reid is a long-term business partner of Mario.
After signing with Epic Record Yo Gotti dropped a new song “I Am” in May 2013. YG and Young Jeezy were also on the track. The song was on several charts and was doing well.

Also, in 2016 CMG Yo Gotti’s label had a partnership with Roc Nation, an entertainment agency owned by Jay Z. 2020 was another outstanding year for Gotti as he released Untrapped.
